LAS VEGAS — Here’s a look at some of the action on Friday & Saturday from the first two days of the 2013-2014 US Youth Soccer National League. 

Friday:

Carlsbad Elite 97/98 2-0 Ambassadors FC (U16)

Both teams enjoyed brief spells of productivity after the game built up slowly from the start. The Ambassadors got the push they needed when coming back into the second half. Minutes before the game was over, Carlsbad scored their goal to take the 2-0 victory despite having lost a player.

Cleveland FC 1-0 Eclipse Select (U14)

As the afternoon rolled around, the teams' pace began to heat up. Cleveland took the lead in the first half, scoring their first and only goal. As the second half rolled around, Cleveland kept their momentum up by keeping Eclipse on their toes.

Eclipse came in hard with fast momentum in the second half. There was high hopes there would be a goal, but they weren’t fast enough. Even with this loss, Eclipse stands with two losses in the U14 age group. This game pushed Cleveland's record to 1-3-0 thus far.

Match Fit Beat 2-1 Legends 95 (U18)

Being marked a possible top two team in the tournament, Match Fit Beat took lead in the first half. Keeping both their energy and momentum strong. Amanda Nardella easily stood out with helping her team keep a fast pace. This gave them the chance to get the first point of the game.

Legends took notice, and in the second half took control of the game. Though at times both teams slowed down, Legends took the opportunity to score their first point in the second half. Celebrating their first point put Match back into high gear. The games energy went back up with Match playing back in forth with Legends while having control of the ball. This helped them score the second goal.

Match Fit Beat is already leading in the U18 age group with two wins and no losses. Despite losing to Match Fit, Legends 95 are above with three wins and one loss.

YMS Premier 99 Pride 0-0 Empire Revolution Buffalo (U14)

It was a tough game for both teams. All U-14 age groups are competing in their first national tournament so let’s just say that was why neither team could make a goal. While Empire tried its best to score, YMS Premier’s goalie did was a goalie does best. Julia Whipple, the team’s goalkeeper made sure to block any attempt of Empire to score.

Both teams have had zero wins in the tournament so far.

Saturday:

Beach FC Ingrassia 1-0 Match Fit Academy FC United (U18)

Beach FC seems to be unstoppable. They’ve already won four games and have no losses. Going against Match Fit, they seemed to be slowing down during the first half, but picked up pace early in the second half. Match Fit did suffer an injury. Forward Mackenzie Wright was helped off the field just before first half was done.

In the second half, Match Fit struggled to gain control of the ball. Though goalkeeper Alexandra Maurer did exactly what a goalkeeper does. Preventing Beach FC from scoring more than one point. The game lacked energy and built anticipation that was only filled with only one point. Both teams are being marked notable teams since they both have a chance of taking high spots in the tournaments. 

Oklahoma Football Club 00 1-0 Exiles Black (U14)

Oklahoma had many close calls on scoring, and eventually did so with 15 minutes remaining in the second half. The team also suffered a goalie injury that resulted in the coach sending in a replacement. 

Exiles kept good steady strides throughout the whole game despite the loss. They are however three wins in with this match being their only loss.  They’re 12 points in so far and are in the running to get top spots in the tournament. This is Oklahoma’s only win in the tournament so far. They currently have 2 losses.

Cleveland United White 5-0 PDA Ginga (U18)

Both teams concentrated the action toward the middle of the field. Despite this, Cleveland made the moves necessary to score and impressed with five goals, with three in the first half and two more in the second. With PDA becoming noticeably upset, they picked up their pace going harder than they did in the first half. Though as much as they tried, Cleveland took control every time PDA was close to scoring.

While Cleveland took the win, PDA comes in with a 12 point advantage overall. Cleveland comes in with a cool two points behind. Cleveland will have to pass PDA soon with more than two points in this tournament to hold them off. 

Tophat 17 Gold 3-3 Pride Predators 99 (U15)

Very close game. Both teams had close calls when it came to scoring. Tophat and Pride both managed to score a goal in the first half. In the second half, Tophat lashed home a penalty. The rest of the game got a bit heated. Tophat and Pride tie with three wins overall with this match being the first loss for Pride.
