We look at South Atlantic Top 20 Stars
Being Holden Fender comes with a few inherit perks. When you’re named after a classic protagonist it wins you more than a few points with English teachers.
That is, until they find out your familiarity with Holden Caufield has its limits.
“I’ve never actually read The Catcher in the Rye,” Fender admitted.
One day Fender just might enjoy it. But for now, he reads defenses as Concorde Fire SC’s star player.
Fender, ranked No. 4 in today’s South Atlantic Region 2012 players and No. 39 in his class overall, has his team running away with first place in the Development Academy’s Southeast Division and thinking about big goals in the coming months.
“We have really come together and clicked, and we’re the first team to clinch a playoff berth in the entire Academy,” Fender said. “We have a great atmosphere throughout the team whether It be on the practice field or in games. We always come ready to play.”
Individually, Fender’s play has him looking at college programs like Wake Forest, SMU and UCLA.
And when he does arrive at the college program of his choice maybe one of his professors will force him to finally read about his namesake.
Other top 20 South Atlantic standouts include Darvin Ebanks (2011), Eli Dent (2013), Cameron Moseley (2014), Dominic Jensen (2015), Sebastian Carlson (2016).
On the girls’ side we have Annie Speese (2011), Caroline Lindquist (2012), Gabrielle Seiler (2013), Emily Leonard (2014) and Sydney Smith (2015).
