#1 Rangers Stay Perfect in RMAC; Defeat Colorado Mines 1-0
DENVER, Colo.: Nationally ranked #1 Regis University men's soccer maintained their winning ways during a Tuesday RMAC match against Colorado School of Mines. The 1-0 shutout improved the Rangers to 12-0 in the RMAC and 14-0-1 overall.
Senior David Key netted the Rangers only goal in the 20th minute of play.
"It's been a long time since we got a shutout," commented Key. "The whole game was a defensive grind, so it was good to finish with the win."
He sent the ball down to senior Alex Tarnoczi at the right of the 18 yard line and cut towards the goal. Tarnoczi passed over to sophomore Martin Maybin who touched back to Key. The defender took a touch to best his defender and sent the ball over the Oredigger goalkeeper's outstretched hands.
Freshman keeper Christian Nicolosi earned four big saves throughout his 90:00 minutes in goal. The match marked his fifth shutout of the 2012 season.
"We knew coming in it would be a hard fight today," stated Nicolosi. "We created opportunities, but it was definitely a tough game and we worked hard for the win."
"We are going to keep our heads down and keep working hard with a tough couple of games coming up this weekend," he finished.
Next, the Rangers will travel to Alamosa, Colo. to take on the Grizzlies of Adams State College at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 26.
