DENVER, Colo.:  #3 Regis University men's soccer pulled off a 3-2 win early in the first over-time period after tough competition from the RoadRunners of Metro State.  The victory puts the Rangers at 10-0-1 overall and 8-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Rangers scored first early in the 12^th minute off a corner from sophomore Adam Tormoehlen.  Senior Taylor Diem won a header off the kick that he sent down to sophomore Logan Miller.  Miller sent the ball through to the bottom right.

The rest of the half remained low-key until the 44^th minute when Metro answered with a goal of their own to even the score. 

With the score now 1-1, senior Alex Tarnoczi got the ball of a kick off and dribbled through the midfield.  He chipped the ball over the top of the right side of the defenders to Tormoehlen who took a touch and buried the ball in to the far post, closing the half up 2-1 over the RoadRunners.

With four minutes left on the clock, Metro State netted another goal to even the score yet again.  The goal would send the match into sudden death overtime.

"Metro is a big rivalry, so we knew they were going to bring their A-game," commented senior Mark Kelly.  "Before the over-time period, coach told us that if we want to be classed as a good team, then we have to step up and play when asked."

Well the Rangers stepped up their game making it a short overtime when Kelly scored after only 1:23 had ticked off the clock.  Junior Garrett Seitz made a run down the left side, beat RoadRunner defenders and sent the ball towards Kelly who scored to shut the match down.

"We wanted to come out and play strong," state Seitz.  "This win really shows our character as a team."

"We haven't had this big of a test yet going into overtime and pulling out a victory, so it really says a lot about our team."

The Rangers put nine on goal in their 17 shots, but RoadRunner goalie Shailer Thomas put in six saves on the day against Regis.

Freshman keeper Christian Nicolosi will earn the win after being challenged three times and making one save.

Metro State came in and played us very tough today," commented head coach Tony McCall.  "It's very difficult when everyone is gunning for you, so we are just taking one win at a time."

"I'm very happy with the guys and their attitudes; they've got great character and it shows because we came back after eing on our heels for the last 20 minutes."

He finished, "the signs of a good team, are teams that can play poorly and still win games; it was a good win for the guys and I've very proud of them."

The win was an excellent end to a very cold senior day.  10 Ranger seniors were honored prior to the match: Scott Brown, Lio DelPiccolo, Taylor Diem, Adam Hinkelman, Kyle Farrell, Mark Kelly, David Key, Stephen Reed, Michael Sheehan and Alex Tarnoczi.

Regis will take a short trip over to Lakewood, Colo. to take on the Cougars of Colorado Christian University.  The RMAC match will take place at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 14^th.
