#8 Falcons Come From Behind To Beat The Card
WHEELING, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College men's soccer team opened Mountain East Conference play with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Wheeling Jesuit.
The No.8 Falcons (4-0) faced challenging field conditions and their first deficit of the season, but were able to fight back and claim their fourth victory of the season.
The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams struggling to bring the ball down and play on the grass surface.
The game took off in the second half after the Falcons fell behind just 48 seconds into the half, after theDavid Healy connected on a Luke Roan cross to give the Cardinals the lead.
The Falcons playing with a more direct approach created a number of chances but were denied by a series of good saves by the Cardinals goalkeeper. It wasn't until the 73rd minute that the Falcons finally found the net.
Reymar Klochko-Khoo again provided the break through for the Falcons. The freshman has now scored in three consecutive games for the Falcons. Kochko-Khoo managed to get on the end of an Adam Mitchell throw in and headed into the roof of the net.
At 1-1 both teams pushed for the game winner with the Falcons taking the decisive lead with 5 minutes remaining when Adam Mitchell was rewarded for his persistence and patience as he scored from six yards out. The goal was Mitchell's third goal in two games.
The Falcons outshot the Cardinals 15-6.
The No.8 Falcons move to 4-0 for the fifth time in six years. The Falcons will continue Mountain East Conference play on Wednesday September 18th at 4 p.m. when they welcome No.23 University of Charleston to Mueller Field.
