Air Force Downs Bradley, 1-0
September 27, 2015
PEORIA, IL - For the fifth time in as many games at Shea Stadium this season, the game ended with a 1-0 score, but for the first time in 2015, Bradley came up on the short end of the result.
Air Force forward Zach Hill took advantage of a transition situation to score the game's only goal in the 73rd minute, lifting the visiting Falcons (3-4-0) to a 1-0 win at Bradley (4-5-0) Sunday afternoon in the final game of The Hotels at Grand Prairie Soccer Series at Shea Stadium. Bradley had won each of its first four home games of the season by 1-0 scores and the Braves had extended their home defensive scoreless streak to 438-minutes, 6-seconds, the third-longest home shutout streak in program history and the longest in Bradley's 13-year Shea Stadium history.
The streak ended when Air Force pounced on a loose ball in the midfield. Austin Guerroro triggered the rush by the Falcons, feeding Tucker Bone for a run in the middle of the park. Bone played the ball out to the left flank to Hill, who beat charging Bradley keeper Logan Ketterer with a low shot from near the top of the 18-yard box at 72:16. The goal was the first allowed by the Braves at Shea Stadium since Nov. 14, 2014 in the semifinals of the MVC Tournament against SIU Edwardsville.
Bradley just missed on a great opportunity for the equalizer in the 90th minute when forward Grant Bell got loose in the middle of the box, but his side volley from 10 yards out of a flank service sailed over the bar with just 45 seconds left in regulation.
After Air Force completed the first half with a slim, 4-3, edge in shots, the Falcons outshot Bradley by a 12-3 margin in the second half.
The Braves will wrap up their second, 3-game home stand of the season Friday when they host Gonzaga for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Shea Stadium.
