Arestivo named second team All-Region
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After being named first team All-Patriot League and helping lead the Lehigh women's soccer team to the Patriot League Championship Game, junior Kayla Arestivo has been named a second team All-North Region honoree, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches this week. Arestivo finished the season tied for the team lead in goals (5) and points (12), none bigger than her game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in overtime in the Patriot League Quarterfinals at Bucknell.
The Mountain Hawks have now had at least one All-Region honoree in each of the last three seasons. In 2016, Adrian Vitello and Alyssa Riporti were named NSCAA third team All-Mid-Atlantic Region. Vitello and Riporti were then named United Soccer Coaches (formally NSCAA) third team All-East Region in 2017, before Arestivo's honor this year. The United Soccer Coaches North Region features an impressive core of talent, including teams from the Big Ten such as Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan and Minnesota.
A member of the Patriot League All-Tournament team, Arestivo scored a goal in the final two games of the regular season (at Loyola and Holy Cross) and first postseason contest (at Bucknell). Her late first-half goal at Holy Cross evened the score at one, setting the stage for Sidonie Warncker's game-winner in the 85th minute to send the Mountain Hawks to their third straight Patriot League Tournament. Arestivo then scored the game-winner four nights later at Bucknell to give Lehigh its first postseason victory since 2010.
Arestivo and the Mountain Hawks advanced to their first Patriot League Championship Game since 2010 as fifth-seeded Lehigh beat No. 4 seed Bucknell and No. 2 seed Colgate in dramatic fashion before falling at No. 1 Boston University behind a 73rd-minute goal.
