Army Outlasts Saints
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Tyler Mitchiner scored the golden goal in the 103rd minute of double overtime to lift Army West Point over Siena Soccer 1-0 at Siena Turf Field. Senior goalkeeper Aleksa Radosavljevic made six saves for the Saints which extended a program record with their seventh consecutive overtime match.
Army West Point (4-2) held decisive advantages in both shots (24-2) and corners (11-5) to remain unbeaten in seven all-time matches (6-0-1) against the Saints (0-2-3). But Radosavljevic gave Siena a fighting chance with another strong effort in net
However, the Black Knights finally broke through with 6:38 remaining in the contest. Keenan O’Shea played a ball to Mitchener who dribbled in from the top right and fired the decisive shot from 20 yards out which tucked inside the near right post for the game-winner.
Senior captain Tommaso Centemero and freshman midfielder Alejandro Riquelme accounted for the Saints’ only two shots, with Riquelme attempting Siena’s lone shot on goal in the 64th minute. Army West Point’s Justin Stoll stopped the attempt for his only save en route to recording the clean sheet.
Following the completion of the first of two season long three-match homestands, the Saints will now embark upon a season long four-match road trip to bridge the conclusion of non-conference action and open MAAC play. Siena returns to action Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Sacred Heart.
