WEST POINT, N.Y.  –  The Army women’s soccer team closes out a season-long five-game road stretch Friday (Sept. 13) evening at 8 [/,/ when it heads to New Britain, Conn., to take on Central Connecticut State followed by its first home match since August when the Black Knights host Rhode Island  n Sunday (Sept. 15), 1 p.m., at Clinton Field.

 

Army (2-3-1) is looking to get back on the winning track this weekend following a 3-0 loss to defending Ivy League champion and NCAA participant Princeton last Sunday that snapped a two-game unbeaten string.

 

Senior Kimberly An leads Army in scoring (six points), goals (three) and shots (19 with 10 on goal). She has scored a goal in two of the last three outings as she continues to climb the Black Knights’ top 10 list. An lists ninth in points (64) and goals (28) and her next tally in the latter moves her into a tie for seventh place.

 

The Black Knights have outshot their opponents 90 to 76 with 33 shots on goal. Army leads 31-28 in corner kicks and has committed just 32 fouls to 59 by its opponents. Two of Army’s goals have been scored by penalty kicks.

 

In goal, freshman keeper Jordan Cassalia shows a 1.45 goals against average, has made 20 saves and posted two shutouts.

 

Army holds a 3-1-1 lead in the all-time series with CCSU and is unbeaten in the last four meetings.  The Black Knights and Blue Devils battled to a 0-0 overtime deadlock in the last meeting at West Point in 2011.

 

CCSU (0-4-0) heads into the weekend in search of  its first win of the season. The Blue Devils, shut out in their last three games, are coming off a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Patriot League member Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks were picked sixth in the Patriot League’s preseason poll, one behind Army.

 

In goal, Nikola Deiter has drawn the starts in all four games among four goalkeepers. She shows a 2.57 goals against average with 21 saves.

 

Army and Rhode Island are renewing a rivalry that took place in the 1990s with the Rams leading 3-2. Rhode Island defeated Army, 3-2,  in the last meeting at Clinton Field in 1994, and the Black Knights’ last win was a 1-0 victory at a tournament hosted by Vermont in 1993.

 

The Rams (3-3-0) are on the road this weekend starting with a visit to Siena Friday evening before taking on the Black Knights Sunday afternoon.

 

Rhode Island is led by Samantha Leyh with four goals and two assists for 10 points, along with a pair of game winners. Lucy Gilden is next with two goals and three assists for seven points. The Rams have scored 10 goals in six games in compiling 29 points. The goalkeeping duties have been split between Reilly Lindsey and Katie Nickles as each has drawn 225 minutes in goal and compiled identical 1.60 goals against average.
