<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">FLORENCE, SC &ndash; Sophomore forward Elizabeth Asare scored on a 5-yard shot with 7.5 seconds left in the second overtime period to rally Francis Marion University to an historic 4-3 win over Presbyterian College, Tuesday evening (Aug. 21) in women&rsquo;s college soccer action.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">The victory evened FMU&rsquo;s season mark at 1-1-0 and came in the first-ever regular-season match at Hartzler Field in the new Griffin Athletic Complex. The win was also the initial victory for first-year head coach Frank Pitt, and came in the first-ever home night match for the Patriot Women.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Asare received a pass in the left side of 6-yard box from junior Yasmin Bunter and tallied the winning goal as the final seconds were being counted down.&nbsp; The score set off a wild celebration and dog pile on the field.&nbsp; The score also capped a rally that erased a two-goal lead for Presbyterian in the second half.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">FMU outshot the Blue Hose 20-17, while Presbyterian led in corner kicks 10-5.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Francis Marion freshman goalkeeper Taylor O&rsquo;Berry registered 11 saves, although a defensive stop by teammate Sandy Odembo along the Patriot goal line was responsible for FMU having the chance to score the match winner.&nbsp; Standing in the mouth of the goal, Odembo cleared off a header by Presbyterian&rsquo;s Tori Lopez with 1:05 left in the final overtime session.&nbsp; The header came off a Blue Hose corner kick by Stephanie Allen.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Junior Jordan Broadway played the first 45 minutes in goal for Presbyterian and made three stops while allowing one score.&nbsp; Freshman Sydney Fontenot played the final 64:52 and recorded one save.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Presbyterian took a 1-0 lead on a 19-yard shot by Allen in the 19th minute.&nbsp; The Patriots knotted the score at 1-1 when Chanel Harris&rsquo; shot was stopped but not covered by Broadway and senior Kelly Kady knocked home the rebound at 41:12.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">However, Presbyterian retook the lead only 2:17 later when Taylor Patti fed Sophie Cobb for a short 5-yard goal to put the Blue Hose up 2-1 at halftime.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Lopez upped the margin to 3-1 on an 11-yard attempt only 3:13 in the second half.&nbsp; Bunter trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at the 50:17 mark on a give-and-go sequence with sophomore Dominique Evans.&nbsp; It was Bunter&rsquo;s 10th career goal.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Francis Marion again evened the score, this time 3-3, at 70:17 when Harris headed in a beautiful cross from Asare that ended a sequence started by a long feed from sophomore midfielder Brittney Smith.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">FMU nearly scored again in the 80th minute when freshman Arianna Pierner made a long driving run down the left flank, but her strong cross went all the way through the 18-yard box without a Patriot being able to put a foot on the ball.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Smith missed out on a match-winner when her shot from 29 yards out went just high in the first overtime period.&nbsp; The Patriots also had back-to-back corner kicks in the 102nd and 103rd minutes that dipped through the 6-yard box but did not find any takers.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Francis Marion will travel to Campbell University on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. kickoff.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Francis Marion University (1-1-0) def.
