Avila Eagles Soccer Programs Open Zarda Athletic Complex With Two Victories
Kansas City, MO - After a summer of renovations, the Avila Eagles Men’s & Women’s soccer programs gathered two impressive victories against Ottawa University on the newly laid field turf at the Zarda Athletic Complex. With construction on the new video display screen going on in the background, the lady Eagles cruised to a 4-0 victory over a Ottawa Women’s program that received votes in the preseason NAIA Top 25 poll. Junior transfer Alyssa D’Egidio (UMKC) found the net twice taking her tally to three goals in two games, while Tracie Geile (Sophomore, St. Peters, MO) and Kyndal Shaddox (Kansas City, MO) both opened their scoring accounts for the year. Stephanie Gartner and Renee Rudder combined to produce a four save shutout, the second on the year for the Eagles.
The Men’s team took the field immediately after the lady Eagles match and continued the momentum as Dustin Deisher (Junior, Topeka, KS) found the net courtesy of a Justin Scicluna assist off a rebounded shot 25 minutes into the contest. Michael Brennan added to the Eagle lead just five minutes later with a fantastic solo effort beating his defender 1v1 on the end line and driving a shot past Drinnan Sante to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage going into the half. Neither team looked like scoring in the second stanza as Keaton McCoy (Freshman, Blue Springs, MO) kept the nerves to a minimum in the Eagles net, producing a two save shutout, the first of his college career.
Both the Men’s & Women’s squads will next travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on Division II McKendree University. Kickoff is schedule for 1:00PM (Women) & 3:00PM (Men).
