Beavers drop Ladyjacks
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's soccer team scored two goals in the first four minutes and held on to defeat Stephen F. Austin, 2-1 on Friday night at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Beavers (1-0-1) dominated the match, outshooting the Ladyjacks 20-8, to pick up their first win of the young season.
"I thought it was a good win for us," said head coach Linus Rhode. "I thought that we started the game off fantastic. We've been talking about having a strong start as a team for a while, so it was nice to have that happen."
Oregon State wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two minutes and 12 seconds into the match when junior Natalie Higgins chipped in a goal after a shot by junior Nikki Farris was blocked by the goalie.
Farris added to the Beaver lead, as she notched her second goal of the season at the 3:58 mark of the first half on a laser from the middle of the box. Junior Kayla Latham and senior Helene Haavik were credited with assists on the goal that gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
Stephen F. Austin (0-1-0) cut the Beaver lead after scoring in the 11th minute on a goal by Hailey Hunt from the top left corner on a pass from Hanna Barker.
Junior Bella Geist had two saves and recorded her first win of the season and the seventh in her career.
The Beavers return to action at noon on Sunday against Nebraska at Paul Lorenz Field in a match that will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
