Beavers Fall Short to the Tigers

Corvallis – The Oregon State women’s soccer team put up a tough fight, but unfortunately, falls 1-0, to Clemson in the first game of the 2018 season.

“I thought it was a good first game for us,” said Oregon State head coach Linus Rhode. “Clemson is a second-round tournament team and one of the top teams in the ACC. I thought we did really well, and it was a great start for us.”

Freshman goalkeeper Bridgette Skiba recorded six total saves, three of which came within the first 15 minutes of play.

“Skiba was outstanding for us today,” Rhode continues. “She had a huge save off of an early Clemson break-away. I really happy with not only her performance, but the performance of a lot of other freshmen.”

Clemson outshot Oregon State 7-1 in the first half. Taylor Lemmond recorded the only shot for the Beavers at the 33^rd minute mark. Even with only one shot, the Beavers and Tigers went into the half tied 0-0.

The Beavers continued to press on in the second half as Emery Wallerich recorded a good shot at the 56^th minute. Helena Brown also took a shot during the 69^th minute between three defenders and the goalie, but neither could fall for Oregon State.

It took until the final minute and a half of play that Clemson finally scored off a free kick scramble inside the box.

Oregon State returns home on Sunday to host Stony Brook at 11 a.m.
