Bellarde & Wilson Score in Liberty’s 2-1 Win
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nico Bellarde and Sachem Wilson each scored a goal, helping to lead the Liberty Flames to a 2-1 victory over the Howard Bison, Tuesday afternoon at Greene field.
Bellarde scored his second goal of the season in the first half, while Wilson netted his team-leading third goal of the year in the Flames’ win. Wilson, who had a multi-point game in a victory over VMI on Saturday, has now scored a goal in each of his last three games.
Kurt Meyers and Jamie Foxwell each recorded assists in the contest. For Meyers, it was his team-leading third of the season.
Liberty goalkeeper Jeremy Lee made three saves, playing the entire 90 minutes. Howard used two keepers during the contest, with Sam Howard starting and recording a save, while Jordan Austin made three saves.
Winners of two straight matches, Liberty even its record at 3-3 on the year. Howard, hosting its first home match of the year, falls to 0-6 on the year. The Flames have won the last eight meetings between the two schools.
Liberty outshot Howard, 12-8, and held the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.

During the 60th minute, Foxwell sent a long throw-in into the 18-yard box, where it was chested down and into the net by Wilson to give Liberty what proved to be the final score of 2-1.
The Flames’ defense held the Bison in check until the final two minutes of the contest. A shot by Mbappe was blocked in front by a Liberty defender in the 89th minute and in the final minute, Lee stopped a shot by Howard’s Adam Hylton to seal the win.
The match began a three-game road swing for the Flames. Liberty next travels to Harrisonburg, Va., for a match at James Madison. Kickoff at University Park is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
