Binks Named U-ADE/NEC Player of the Week
St. Francis Brooklyn goalkeeper Jack Binks (Darlington, England/Hurworth Comprehensive) was named U-ADE/Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the week of September 22nd. For Binks, it is his first Player of the Week award.
Binks posted back-to-back shutouts for the Terriers last week en route to the first two victories of the season for the defending 2013 Northeast Conference champions. The Darlington, England product stopped a total of eight shots in wins over Howard and Army.
Against Howard, Binks came up big in the 14th minute as Howard's McKinley Smith put a right-footed shot from the left wing that Binks was able to turn away. He was tested again in the 21st minute as Rahman Alarape booted a free kick from the right wing that Binks was able to pull down.
Army had opportunities to tie the match, but Binks answered the call for the Terriers. The Black Knights almost tied it in the 76th minute but the junior keeper made a diving stop on Sean Morgan's attempt.
Binks is steadily rewriting the Terrier record books. He currently has 93 career saves with St. Francis Brooklyn and 144 in his three-years playing at the NCAA Division I level (spent his freshman season at Siena). He needs just 12 stops to tie Rosario Candela '05 for 12th all-time on the St. Francis Brooklyn career saves list with 105.
With his back-to-back shutouts, Binks moved into a tie with Erez Shochat '96 with nine career cleansheets. Binks' next accolade to conquer is 16, the amount of shutouts that former Terrier netminder Chris Antonino '09 recorded.
