Bison Open Home Schedule with 3-0 Win Over Montana
FARGO, N.D. - Sophomore Stephanie Jacobson had a goal and an assist as the North Dakota State soccer team shut out Montana, 3-0, on Friday, Sept. 16. Dating back to last season, the Bison have now won seven straight home games. The Bison improve to 5-2-0 with the victory, while Montana falls to 3-4-0.
NDSU put pressure on the Montana defense from the opening kickoff, notching four shots in the opening 15 minutes, including a shot from senior Abbey Moenkedick that was cleared off the line.
Junior Brooklyn Dyce gave the Bison the lead at the 25:19 mark of the half, heading in a cross from senior Laura Wagner. It was Dyce's second goal of the season.
NDSU continued to push for a second goal as Jacobson had two consecutive shots saved by Grizzly goalie Kendra McMillen.
Jacobson broke through and scored her first collegiate goal at the 35:00 minute mark to give NDSU a 2-0 lead. After receiving a cross from senior Kaylee McDonald, Jacbson volleyed the ball past McMillen, who was able to get her gloves on the shot, but couldn't keep it out of the net.
The Bison limited the Grizzlies to just two shots in the first half with none on goal.
Senior goalie Kalani Bertsch was called into action three times in the second half, stopping shots from Erin Craig, Mary Makris and Lauren Costa.
Freshman Anisha Kinnarath put the finishing touch on the game for the Bison, scoring her first goal in the 89th minute, slotting the ball into the corner off a pass from Jacobson.
NDSU outshot Montana, 15-6, and tallied eight shots on goal to Montana's three. The team earned its fourth shutout of the season and Bertsch notched the 14th shutout of her career.
The Bison continue their six-game homestand with a game against Nebraska Omaha Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.
