Bisons fall 3-0 in Coaches vs Cancer Match
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to ETSU on Saturday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Although the Bisons did not pick up the victory on the field, LU succeeded in its attempt to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
Lipscomb surpassed its goal of $1,500 by raising nearly $2,000 dollars.
“I just want to applaud the players for their efforts with Coaches vs Cancer tonight,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “It was a tremendous effort on their part to sell tickets for the drawing for the jersey. They really took ownership in that.”
On the field, the Bisons gave up a goal in the first 20 seconds as Colin Pugh slid a pass to Luis Calzadilla on the left side of the penalty box, who struck the ball into the net.
That would be the only goal scored in the physical first half as each team struck two shots.
The second stanza saw the Bucs open a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute as Itode Bubara sent a through ball to David Geno, striking his A-Sun leading 10th goal.
ETSU added a third goal in the 77th minute from Alesi Osorio with a hard shot from 15 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.
“It was a disappointing night,” Morrow said. “We’ve got to do better as coaches and the players have got to be better. What we envisioned seeing on the field and what we saw on the field were so far apart.”
Lipscomb held the edge with seven shots but was only able to position one on goal. Freshman Reece Holcombe unleashed his shot in the 80th minute, which was saved by Ryan Coulter.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Morrow said. “Luckily it is a long week to get ready for Stetson. I feel confident that we can put a better product on the field than we did tonight.”
The Bisons slip to 4-9-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference play while the Bucs improve to 7-5-2 and 3-1-0 in the loop.
The Bisons return to the pitch Friday night, hosting senior night along with Stetson University at 7 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
