Blanks named Patriot League Goalie of Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh junior goalkeeper Ashley Blanks was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday following a strong five-save performance in a 1-0 shutout at Army. The shutout marked Blanks' sixth of her career as the North Andover, Massachusetts native has won two straight starts and owns a 3-2-2 record on the season.
Saturday's win helped Lehigh move into a tie for sixth place in the Patriot League standings and the final league tournament spot with three regular season games remaining.
Four of Blanks' saves came off the foot of Kim An. Blanks stood tall in the final minutes, making saves at the 86:12 and 89:29 marks to preserve the victory. She owns an impressive .871 save percentage and 1.01 goals against average for the season.
In addition, sophomore Paige Elliott garnered honorable mention recognition for her big goal at Army. The first-half tally was her first of the season and put Lehigh in front for good. Elliott was also part of a defensive effort that pitched the shutout, giving the Mountain Hawks their first win at Army since the 2010 Patriot League Championship Game (also a 1-0 victory).
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when it looks to keep momentum going at Navy. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
