Blugolds Fall on the Road to Warhawks
WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team traveled to UW-Whitewater to kick off a streak of five-straight road games and four-straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchups. The Blugolds gave up a goal in each half and were held scoreless as they fell to the Warhawks 2-0.
The Warhawks (8-0-2, 3-0-0) scored in the 27th minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Blugolds (3-3-3, 0-1-1) entered the game 0-0-1 in the WIAC after tying UW-La Crosse earlier in the season. They will have to wait, however, to get their first conference win this season.
UW-Whitewater added an insurance goal in the 67th minute and that was enough as UW-Eau Claire has struggled to score this season. Despite their struggles to score, it was only the second time they have been shutout this season. The other came in a 0-0 tie at St. Olaf (Minn.).
Nina Behrenbrinker (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) made four saves on six shots for the Blugolds. They did outshoot the Warhawks 12-8, but they couldn't find the back of the net. UW-Whitewater held the advantage with five corner kicks to just one for the Blugolds.
UW-Eau Claire will be off for a week now before they travel to Stevens Point to take on the Pointers in search of their first conference victory. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
