Bonner named league's Rookie of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's soccer freshman Julianna Bonner was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday following a big effort against Bucknell last Wednesday. The Ellicott City, Maryland native assisted on the game-tying goal from senior Maggie Wadsworth in the 70th minute before heading home what proved to be the game-winner in the 81st minute. Sophomore Rebecca Van Siclen added an insurance goal less than two minutes later for a big 3-1 Patriot League victory.
The award marks Bonner's first-career weekly honor and Lehigh's third award of the season. Junior Miranda Royds was also named Goalkeeper of the Week for consecutive weeks in September.
Bonner's goal was part of a 3-0 Lehigh run, all in the span of 12:18, to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 advantage. It also marked her first-career goal, as she found the back of the net off a free kick. Bonner's helper in the 70th minute marked the first assist, and point, of her career.
Following a 1-1 week, the Mountain Hawks return home on Saturday to host Boston University at 1 p.m. in a rematch of the 2018 Patriot League Championship Game.
