Broncs Clinch Winning Record in NC Play
SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team clinched a winning record in non-conference play by beating the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals 2-1 on Sunday at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
The Broncs are now 5-1-2 with two non-conference matches remaining.
The Cardinals (0-6-0) applied most of the pressure in the first half, outshooting the Broncs 10-3, including 6-2 on goal. The Broncs’ final shot, however, was a header by freshman Aimie Inthoulay off a high bouncing pass from freshman Marcela Ramirez that went into the goal to put the Broncs up 1-0 31 seconds before halftime.
The Cardinals kept up the pressure in the second half, and on their ninth shot on goal, Alexis Santos received a pass from Sarah Johnson and put one past freshman goalkeeper Aubrie Coley (3-1-2) to tie the match at 62:33.
Coley finished with a career-high 11 saves.
Just under nine minutes later, freshman Frida Farstad-Eriksson launched a long free kick to freshman Andreya Barrera, who sent it past relief goalkeeper Heather Kowalik (0-1-0) to put the Broncs up 2-1.
The Broncs won despite getting outshot 19-7, including 12-5 on goal.
The Broncs complete this six-match road trip on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they visit Texas Southern.
