Broncs Off to Best Start in School History
GRAMBLING, La. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team is the first team in school history to be undefeated through its four matches at the NCAA Division I level after beating the Grambling State University Tigers 4-0 on Friday at Eddie Robinson Stadium.
The Broncs men’s tennis team set the previous school record, going undefeated through its first three matches in 1965-66.
The Broncs (3-0-1) scored two quick goals against the Tigers (0-1-0), as goalkeeper and Harlingen South alum Erica Gonzalez (2-0-0) launched a deep pass that freshman Aimie Inthoulay buried at the 13:05 mark, and then, just over two minutes later, freshman Andreya Barrera scored off a feed from freshman Emily Ortiz to make it 2-0.
Just under five minutes into the second half, Inthoulay struck again on a feed from Ortiz to put the Broncs up 3-0.
Freshman Blanca Rodriguez put the match away with her first-career goal off of freshman Frida Farstad-Eriksson’s first-career assist to make it 4-0 at the 59:32 mark.
Gonzalez finished with six saves for her first-career shutout.
The Broncs continue this six-match road trip on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when they visit Texas A&M International.
