Bulldogs Outshoot LMU in Tie

The Fresno State women's soccer team outshot Loyola Marymount (18-17) on the road Sunday afternoon, but could not find the back of the net as the Bulldogs earned their first tie of the season, 0-0, after playing through two overtimes on the pitch.

"It was pretty exciting to watch," said Head Coach Brian Zwaschka. "It was a pretty high intensity game. I really felt like we played smart. I feel like we really challenged a very good team."

The defense continued its tireless play, recording the 'Dogs third straight shutout of the year. Freshman Katie DeVault spent the entire 110 minutes in goal to earn her first career shutout with two saves. Other Bulldogs on the pitch for the full-term were seniors Molly Nizzoli, Kendall VanDine and Laura Dodd; along with sophomores Lauren Lindstrom and Kayla Kret.

"Congratulations go to Katie for leading that back line," Zwaschka said, "but we're excited the whole team contributed. We had so many players contributing it allowed us to keep a high intensity game."

Nizzoli led the offensive play with four shots, two on goal. The Bulldogs finished with eight shots on goal to LMU's two. The Lions (3-0-1) picked up their first tie of the year as well.

"We played a strong game, the way we want to play away from home," added Zwaschka. "We still feel like we're building and we don't feel that our best soccer has come out yet. That's a neat feeling to have."

Fresno State (2-1-1) stays on the road for its next match, taking on the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in Santa Barbara.
