Cal Poly Tops CSU Bakersfield, 1-0

<p>SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly women's soccer team kicked off their first home game of the season at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on <span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT331_com_zimbra_date" class="Object"><span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT332_com_zimbra_date" class="Object">Sunday</span></span> afternoon with a 1-0 win over CSU Bakersfield. The Cal Poly women are now 2-0-0 on the season while CSU Bakersfield drops to 0-2-0.<br /> <br /> Freshman goalie <a href="http://calpoly.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2012-13/bios/giannetti%20alyssa%20bj05">Alyssa Giannetti</a> recorded her first shutout as a Mustang with seven of saves while sophomore <a href="http://calpoly.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2012-13/bios/lancaster%20sara%205zla">Sara Lancaster</a> scored her first goal of the season late in the game to secure the win.<br /> <br /> In the 85th minute Lancaster took a shot on goal from six yards out and picked off the rebound from CSU Bakersfield goalie, Tori Ornela, and had had an open net goal from four yards out. Lancaster had a total of four shots, three on goal. <br /> <br /> Junior <a href="http://calpoly.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2012-13/bios/farrington%20cristina%20ezzh">Cristina Farrington</a> also had four shots, three on goal with freshman <a href="http://calpoly.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2012-13/bios/mertens%20robin%20cfc6">Robin Mertens</a> taking two shots, one on goal.<br /> <br /> Giannetti faced a total 18 shots earning her second win of the season in goal.<br /> <br /> CSUB's best scoring opportunity came in the midway in the final period when Giannetti was pulled out of net and the ball was cleared by <a href="http://calpoly.prestosports.com/sports/wsoc/2012-13/bios/fetsch%20braelyn%20dn3u">Braelyn Fetsch</a>.<br /> <br /> Overall Cal Poly took 15 shots, eight on goal while CSUB had 18 shots, eight on goal.<br /> <br /> Cal Poly returns to action with two road games against Nevada on <span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT333_com_zimbra_date" class="Object"><span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT336_com_zimbra_date" class="Object">August 24th</span></span> and Sacramento State on <span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT334_com_zimbra_date" class="Object"><span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT337_com_zimbra_date" class="Object">August 26th</span></span>. They will return home against Cal on <span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT335_com_zimbra_date" class="Object"><span id="OBJ_PREFIX_DWT338_com_zimbra_date" class="Object">August 31st</span></span> for a 6:00pm game.</p>
