Career Night By Bougas Leads Terriers To 7-0 Win Over Alabama State Friday Evening
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford sophomore Emily Bougas had a career night Friday evening, leading the Terriers to a 7-0 win over Alabama State at Snyder Field. The Terriers improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Hornets fall to a 1-5 record.
Bougas led the team with three goals and two assists, tying the Wofford all-time individual match record for points with eight on the evening.
The sophomore from Grayson, Ga. scored the opening goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 5th minute of play following a pass by Chelsea Ashworth.
Anne Phillips scored her first goal of the season in the 7th minute of action, putting the ball in the back of the net following a crossing pass from Bougas.
Bougas then scored her second goal of the evening in the 13th minute following a pass by Phillips.
Evie Kytan scored the final goal of the first half in the 32nd minute following a corner kick where Kytan was able to put the ball in the back of the net from four yards out.
Kytan then scored her second goal of the evening in the 68th minute of play, when Bougas took a shot that ricocheted off the right post of the goal and Kytan was able to put the ball into the back right corner of the net.
Bougas scored her third goal of the evening in the 72nd minute, as Maggie McLaughlin sent a pass from the left side of the box to Bougas who send the shot rolling into the back left corner of the goal.
Shonte Campbell scored the final goal of the evening in the 88th minute of play, sending a shot past ASU keeper Maressa Gordon after she came out of the box to make a play on the ball. Bridget Hutter was credited with the assist.
Bougas’ eight-point evening ties an individual match team record that is shared by Brigid Meadow in 1994 against Limestone and Thea Moren in 1998 versus East Tennessee State.
Terrier keeper Erika Christensen was awarded the win, while ASU starting keeper Kylee Hathaway was given the loss.
Wofford returns to action Sunday afternoon, hosting Francis Marion at 2:00 p.m. at Snyder Field.
