Cavaliers take over top spot in TDS top 25
There’s a new No. 1 in town.
Thanks to North Carolina’s 1-0 loss at the hands of Notre Dame on Sunday, the Virginia Cavaliers take over the summit in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25.
The Tar Heels drop just one spot, however, as it took a great deal to knock them off. Morgan Andrews tallied for the Irish in the 22nd minute, and Notre Dame survived a second half onslaught. That included a Crystal Dunn shot that hit the cross bar, bounced over the line and then out of the goal, but the call was missed.
In its only game of the week, the No. 1 Cavaliers easily dispatched Syracuse 3-0 on Thursday. Makenzy Doniak and Brittany Ratcliffe each grabbed a goal and an assist for UVA.
Stanford is unchanged at No. 3 after a 3-1 win on Sunday over Iowa State, UCLA, which took care of business against San Diego State on Friday in a 2-0 win, comes in at No. 4.
Also keeping hold of its No. 5 spot is Florida State, which enjoyed a solid run of games. On Thursday the Seminoles drew 0-0 with Wake Forest, and wrapped up the weekend with a big 2-1 win against Duke.
Rounding out the top ten are Notre Dame, Penn State, Wake Forest, Baylor and Georgetown.
Entering the top 25 this week are Kentucky (No. 22), Wisconsin (No. 24) and Ohio State (No. 25).
