CC Completes Texas Two-Step
It was a serious case of déjà vu for the Colorado College men’s soccer team on Sunday.
Just like Friday’s victory at Schreiner University, the Tigers scored a pair of second-half goals to record a 2-0 triumph against Texas Lutheran University.
CC improved to 6-2-2 overall with its sixth consecutive win and is tied atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with Southwestern University at 5-0-0.
Senior forward Brandon Ogilvie put the Tigers on the board in the 50th minute when he converted on his third penalty kick of the season. All three of those PKs have been scored on the road.
Freshman midfielder Caden MacKenzie added an insurance goal midway through the second half when he knocked home the rebound of a shot by freshman defender Christian Wulff.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Horne, who made the first of his three saves 6:25 into the second half, posted his fifth shutout of the year.
Colorado College finished the contest with an 18-9 advantage in total shots, while TLU had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Jonathan Michael stopped nine shots for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 5-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in league play.
Colorado puts its share of first place in the SCAC on the line next Friday when the Tigers play Southwestern University at 7 p.m. MT on Washburn Field.
