CCSU Women's Soccer Falls Short at FDU
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped to 2-3 in NEC play on Friday night as it fell short against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights by a score of 1-0. With the loss, the Blue Devils' record falls to 4-11 on the season while the Knights improve to 8-6-2, 4-0-1 in the NEC.
The Knights found the net early in the first period when FDU's Carly Tice gained possession of a loose ball in front of the goal and sent it into the right of the net, giving the Knights a lead they would not relinquish.
The Blue Devils outshot FDU 12-5 but were unable to finish on the offensive front. Junior Tori Sousa led Central with three shots, one on goal and was followed by senior Jewel Robinson who posted two, one on goal.
Defensively, CCSU held FDU to just three shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Nikola Deiter tallied two saves in her 90 minutes between the posts.
The match proved to be an aggressive one as the two squads tallied 34 fouls, four yellow cards and one red card, collectively. Following FDU's red card, the Knights played the final minutes of regulation down one player to ultimately claim the win.
The Blue Devils have three matches left in the regular season, each an NEC contest.
Central will travel to Mount St. Mary's Sunday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and fans can watch all the action live on NECFrontRow.com. Following that contest, CCSU will remain on the road to face Bryant before returning home for senior day against Wagner on Sunday, Nov. 3.
