CCSU Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight
The Blue Devils scored goals as the Central Connecticut women's soccer team won its second straight game, 3-1, at home vs. Fairfield on Friday night. The win pushes Central's record to 2-5-0 on the season, while the Stags drop to 3-4-0 overall on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Nikola Deiter posted four saves in the victory, and the Blue Devils added one team save in their best offensive game of the season.
Senior Jewel Robinson got the Blue Devils on the board just 3:20 into the first half. She turned a turnover in the Fairfield defensive end into a great individual offensive play and scored her first goal of the season. She beat Fairfield keeper Sophia DeVita to the top right corner for the score.
The Stags tied the game on a goal from Ashley Small in the 31st minute, but Central answered quickly.
Junior transfer Tori Sousa took the ball off a pair of blocked shots, made a move to the left side and beat DeVita for the score in the 36th minute.
Central added a third goal in the second half. Junior Julie Lavoie scored her second goal in as many games to push the lead to 3-1 with under 14 minutes to play in the game. Lavoie took a great feed from Christina Boucher and ran past the keeper for her second goal of the season.
The Blue Devils outshot the Stags 17-9, including 7-6 in shots on goal. Both teams had three corners.
The Blue Devils are back in action again on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the University of Hartford.
