Centenary Falls At Rosemont In CSAC Semis
ROSEMONT, Pa. – Fourth-seeded Centenary College saw its season come to an end in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals after dropping a 2-1 decision at top-seeded Rosemont on Wednesday.
The Ravens (12-7) advanced to Saturday's championship match for the first time in program history and owns hosting rights after claiming the league's regular-season title.
Rosemont jumped out to an early lead as Lauren Whalen collected a loose ball in front and found the back of the net. Whalen helped the Ravens double their lead in the second half, assisting on Taylor Mohr's goal at the 52:00 mark.
Centenary rallied for a goal with under five minutes remaining in regulation, closing the deficit to one. Sophomore Lorraine Dedrick (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) was dragged down in the box and junior Cara Holmes (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) connected on the ensuing penalty kick, driving a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
However, the Cyclones were unable to muster the game-tying goal, falling just short in the final minutes.
CC collected 10 shots, while the Ravens posted 15. Junior goalkeeper Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) made six stops for Centenary.
Centenary, making its third appearance in the CSAC semifinals during the last four seasons, concluded the year with a record of 8-10-2.
