Charpie Finalist for Senior CLASS Award
TAMPA, OCT. 21, 2014 – USF defender Wesley Charpie has been chosen as one of 10 finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award for men’s soccer.
The award is one of the most prestigious honors in college athletics and focuses on four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
Charpie has been a leader on and off the field for the Bulls, starting all 74 games over the past four seasons. The Tarpon Springs, Fla., native is currently tied for fourth in the American Athletic Conference with four assists this season and is USF’s active career leader with 29 points and five game-winning goals.
The senior defender has also been a standout in the classroom with a 3.4 GPA while majoring in Relation Communications. He is set to graduate this December and was named to the 2013-14 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team last season.
“I think you see Wes and on the field he’s an excellent player and then off the field if you ever have a chance to spend time with him he’s a fun guy to be around and I think it’s deserved,” head coach George Kiefer said of Charpie being named a finalist.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from a pool of 30 candidates that were named back in September and the winner will be announced during the 2014 Men’s College Cup in Cary, N.C., in December.
Not only will media and head coaches be involved in the final vote but fans will also have their chance to play a part in choosing the winner. Voting is open through Nov. 24 and Bulls’ fans can vote for Charpie once a day on www.seniorCLASSaward.com. You can also vote by clicking HERE.
Charpie is the second USF player to be named a finalist for the award, joining Zak Boggs who won the fan voting portion back in 2009.
