Clan lose battle with the Crusaders
Burnaby, BC - The Simon Fraser University Clan women's soccer team fell to the University of Northwest Nazarene Crusaders 1-0 on Saturday at Terry Fox Field.
The first half was a defensive battle, with neither side gaining the upper hand as the two teams went into the locker room at halftime, tied 0-0.
NNU's first goal came early into the second half as Whitney Wood headed the ball into the back of the net in the 51st minute.
SFU goalkeeper, Amanda Gilliand (Detla, B.C) kept SFU the in game making great saves, making eight on the afternoon.
“I was strong with my hands today and I am happy with the way I distributed the ball,” said Gilliand. “We just need to continue working hard and get better as a team.”
The Clan's best opportunity to score came with 10 minutes left in the game when Olivia Aguiar (Coquitlam, BC) set up Sage Rinaldo (Vancouver, BC) but NNU goalkeeper Monique Ray made the save.
With the loss, the Clan's record falls to 1-8 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
The Simon Fraser Clan will be back in action on Terry Fox Field on Thursday, October 4 when they face the Western Washington University Vikings.
