Clemson Defeats UNC-Greensboro 2-0
GREENSBORO, NC—Manolo Sanchez and Austin Savage both scored goals in leading Clemson to a 2-0 victory over UNC-Greensboro in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Greensboro, NC Tuesday night.
With the win, Clemson improves to 4-5-2 overall, while UNC-Greensboro falls to 4-5-2 overall this season. The Tigers have won three matches in a row.
Clemson scored first in the 75th minute of play. Sanchez scored the unassisted goal when he struck from the middle of the box.
The Tigers added another goal in the 82nd minute when Savage scored with an assist from Amadou Dia.
Clemson took 14 shots on the night compared to the Spartans’ 11. The Tigers also had seven corner kicks compared to UNC-Greensboro’s 5.
Clemson’s goalkeeper, Chris Glodack finished the match with three saves and the Spartan goalkeeper, Peyton Ford had six saves.
“We put together a tough, mental game,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan. “We started out playing well and faded. In the second half, we came back with a good emotional response. UNCG is a good team and they had their chances. Austin Savage, Alex Stockinger, and Amadou Dia all turned in good performances. We are starting to come together slowly as a team. We now have to prepare for North Carolina that’s coming to town on Friday.”
Clemson will play host to sixth-ranked North Carolina on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
