Clemson too much for Patriots in second half
CLEMSON S.C.- Francis Marion University found itself even at zero with the Clemson Tigers at the half before a barrage of Tiger goals downed the Patriots 4-0 Thursday evening (Oct. 27) at the Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, S.C. in women’s soccer action.
The Patriots (4-12-1) gave up four goals in the second frame to the home Tigers (6-12-0). Three of the Clemson tallies came in a four minute span starting in the 53rd minute, including two off the foot of Vanessa Laxgang registered in the 56th and 57th minute. Lexgang added an assist of her own on the final Clemson goal in the 79th minute.
Francis Marion had two shots in the match, one from junior midfielder Kelly Kady, and the other from freshman midfielder Brittney Smith. Kady’s first half shot was the only shot on goal in the match for FMU.
Clemson held the advantage over FMU in shots, 27-2 and corner kicks 7-2.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Vetock registered 11 saves for the Patriots, as Clemson keeper Lauren Arnold stopped her only test.
Francis Marion closes out its season Sunday afternoon at the FMU Soccer Field for Senior Day. The Patriots will welcome in Longwood University, with the match starting a 3 p.m.
