Colonels pick up 3-0 victory at Dallas
After suffering a loss to start the weekend, the Centre women's soccer team rebounded by rolling to a 3-0 win over University of Dallas on Sunday in Irving, Tex.
Though Centre eventually won in convincing fashion, it took nearly the whole first half before the Colonels broke through on a Katie Stevenson (Flat Rock, N.C.) goal with an assist from Mary Taylor Kersey (Winchester, Ky.) in the 42nd minute. The goal was Stevenson's fourth of the year with Kersey's assist a team-leading eighth.
Things came easier for the Colonels after halftime as they distanced themselves with a Rachel Brannen (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) goal on an assist from Kelsey Boling (Louisville, Ky.) in the 61st minute. Amy Hebbler (Fort Wright, Ky.) tacked on a third goal in the closing seconds. Brannen's goal was her second of the season while Hebbeler's was her third.
Overall Centre outshot Dallas 14-5 in the contest, including a 10-1 edge in the second half. The Colonels took nine corners without allowing one to Dallas.
Senior goalkeeper Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) made one save in posting her ninth shutout of the season while Brigid Hanson made four stops for Dallas.
With the win, Centre improves to 8-3 overall and pulls even in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at 2-2. Dallas falls to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC. The Colonels travel to Sewanee on Friday.
