Columbus State Women’s Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw With Lander
Greenwood, SC – Stephanie Lowery scored a pair of second half goals to help Columbus State earn a 2-2 tie with Lander Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Jeff May Complex. CSU moves to 6-1-2 and 1-1-1 in PBC action while Lander stands at 6-1-1 and is also 1-1-1 in conference play.
In a tightly contested match, scoring opportunities were far and few between but the Lady Cougars had the best chances throughout the game. Lowery nearly got on the board in the first half as she headed a service from Kayla Brownon target, but a diving save by Lander goalkeeper Chelsea Beetch kept the match scoreless.
Lander would answer back six minutes later as Jamie Shaw spun and hit a shot from 25 yards out to beat Mary Mancin and knot the game at one. Shaw put the Lady Bearcats ahead in the 76th minute when she put home the rebound off a Jenny Peterson rebound.
Showing their grit, Columbus State kept pushing numbers forward and finally got the equalizer with 4:16 remaining in regulation. Jaci Carithers came away with the ball after a scrum on the left side and served the ball into the penalty area and Lowery buried her second goal of the match knotting the game at 2-2.
Mancin and Beetch both played the entire contest picking up five and four saves, respectively. Columbus State outshot LU 15-12 while the Lady Bearcats held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
