Columbus State Women’s Soccer Wins Fifth Straight
Columbus – The Columbus State women's soccer team scored three second half goals to propel them to a 3-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial in a non-conference matchup Wednesday night at the Walden Soccer Complex. With the win, CSU improves to 6-1-1 on the year while the Lady Railsplitters even their mark at 3-3.
CSU's offensive chances were limited in the first half although they dominated the possession. Their best scoring opportunity came in the 16th minute when Kiana Nicholson's shot sailed just over the crossbar.
Nicholson was finally able to get Columbus State on the board with just under 30 minutes remaining in the match. The freshman received a cross from Emily Husted at the top of the 18-yard box, touched it across to her left foot and powered it home for her fifth goal of the year.
Less than two minutes later, the Lady Cougars were able to notch their second goal of the game as Kayla Brown served a corner kick into the box which Kansas Bayly headed home just inside the right post. Nicholson closed out the scoring on the night in the 69th minute as she knocked in her second goal of the match. Amber Wright tallied the assist on the play.
Mary Mancin picked up the win for Columbus State improving to 6-1-1 on the year and picked up a save on the lone LMU shot. Kayla Hanson falls to 3-3 allowing all three goals while making eight saves.
The offensive possession was tremendous for CSU as they outshot Lincoln Memorial 19-1 in the game and held a 5-0 lead on corner kicks. The Lady Cougars are 3-1 all-time against the Lady Railsplitters and have scored three goals in every single match against LMU.
Columbus State returns to action this weekend as they travel to take on Lander in a pivotal Peach Belt Conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
