Covenant Blanks Wesleyan 8 Goals To None
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots soccer team played Wesleyan College on Tuesday night and came away with a decisive 8-0 victory on Scotland Yard. The Lady Scots led 4-0 at the first half and added four more goals post-intermission to improve their record to 7-7-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the Great South. Wesleyan drops to 3-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
The scoring started 18 minutes into the contest when senior Dana Streufert kicked the ball over the wall of defenders on a free kick, directly into the goal. Four minutes later, she assisted Eliza Drew to bring the score to 2-0. Mary Buys had the third goal from a beautiful cross by Rachel Carlton. To end the first half, Drew scored her second of the night from roughly 30 yards out.
The second half was equally successful for the Lady Scots. One minute in, Streufert scored her second goal of the night, assisted by Drew, by heading the ball into the net. Within six minutes, Margaret Cross tapped it past Wesleyan goalkeeper Abby Stephens. Teagan Wood scored twice with fantastic left footed shots for Covenant’s final two scores.
Hannah Bales didn’t get in on much of the action, but did manage to earn one save. The Lady Scots dominated Wesleyan’s end of the pitch with 29 shots, 17 of which went on goal. Stephens had nine saves on the night.
The Lady Scots play next on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Huntingdon College at Scotland Yard.
