CSUN's Lev-Ari Named Big West PoW
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
After scoring a goal in both of CSUN's matches last weekend in Oklahoma, forward Sagi Lev-Ari was chosen as the Big West Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. In addition, Lev-Ari was selected to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week for his goals in victories over then-No. 18 UAB and Tulsa.
On Friday evening at the Holiday Inn Hurricane Classic hosted by Tulsa, Lev-Ari scored a goal in the 13th minute that stood up as the game-winning strike. He collected a long throw-in from Gabe Robinson and finished his shot past the UAB goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Two days later he punched home the game-winning goal once more, this time in overtime, to give CSUN a 2-1 win against the host Golden Hurricane. In the 92nd minute of play, Lev-Ari received a cross from David Turcios two yards from goal and hammered the ball into the open net. For his work at the Hurricane Classic, he was named to the All Tournament Team and was voted as the weekend's Co-MVP with teammate Adam Hobbs.
Lev-Ari has now scored a goal in each of the first four matches of the season and has nine goals over his last eight matches overall. He has 35 career goals in two-plus seasons, tying him for sixth all-time at CSUN with Willie Sims and Michael Preis and fourth all-time in Big West Conference history. The Big West Player of the Week award comes as Lev-Ari's fourth, also tying him for fourth all-time in the conference.
