Dall'Orso Gives CSUB 1-0 Win Over UNLV
LAS VEGAS, Nev.--Lucas Dall'Orso (So., Orange County, Calif., JSerra HS) scored on a free kick in the 107th minute to give CSU Bakersfield (9-4-5, 6-3-1 MPSF) a 1-0 double overtime victory over UNLV (6-13-1, 4-6 MPSF) Friday
A sequence in the 85th minute saw the Roadrunners take two shots and earn a corner kick, but Rebels' goalie Joe Vitale made two saves. CSUB went down a man in the first overtime when Scott Luedtke (R-Jr., Dallas, Texas, Pearce HS) was issued a red card at 97:53.
UNLV was called for a foul, setting up the free kick for the Roadrunners. Dall'Orso's attempt curved around the wall to the right post. The Rebels would outshoot CSUB 15-12. Roadrunner goalie Eric Shannon (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) posted his 28th career shutout. He made three saves.
"It was a really tough game as UNLV played very well," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "The red card was a harsh decision as Scott will miss our first game in the MPSF Tournament next week. We are obviously pleased with the win as we never stopped working and fighting for the win."
With 19 points, CSUB will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the at next week's MPSF Tournament. If Air Force beats Denver on Saturday, the Falcons will be the No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye. If Air Force ties or loses to DU, the Falcons will be the No. 3 seed and play the No. 6 seed on Thursday, Nov. 8 as the Roadrunners earn the first round bye.
