Dartmouth Women Fall, 2-0, at Penn

October 15, 2011

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Penn women's soccer team used goals in both halves to defeat the Dartmouth women's soccer team 2-0 in Ivy League action on Saturday at Rhodes Field.

The Big Green had a tough time getting any offensive rhythm going throughout the game but did have several scoring chances in the opening stanza. Junior forward Libby Hamlin (Vernon, Conn.) had a shot that went wide while sophomore midfielder Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) had a shot that was blocked by a Penn defender.

Hamlin led the Dartmouth (3-9-0, 1-3-0 Ivy League) offense with two shots in the contest while goalkeeper Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) made two saves in 90 minutes of action in net.  The Big Green held the Quakers to just one second half shot after Penn had six first-half shots.

The Quakers got on the board in the 29th minute with a goal from Kathryn Barth. Barth picked up a pass from teammate Ursula Lopez-Palm and sent it to the inside left post just behind Dartmouth goalkeeper Hogan.

Dartmouth, picked up the intensity on the both sides of the ball in the second half, and had shots from sophomore midfielder Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) and Hamlin but it was Penn (11-2-0, 3-1-0Ivy League) that scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute of action.  Barth added her second tally of the day on a header from a corner kick as the Quakers picked up their sixth consecutive win.

Dartmouth concludes its three-game road swing when it travels to Boston University for a midweek contest against the Terriers on Wednesday (Oct. 19). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at BU's Nickerson Field.
