HANOVER, N.H.- The Dartmouth women's soccer team knocked Ivy League leader, Penn, from the undefeated ranks with a 2-1 win over the Quakers at Burnham Field on Saturday night. Penn entered Saturday's game undefeated in its last four games and sporting a nine-game Ivy League undefeated streak dating back to last season.

The win gives Princeton sole possession of first place in the Ivy League standings, as they posted a 2-1 win over Columbia today, while Dartmouth and Penn are tied for second with identical 3-1-0 records.

Entering the second half tied at 1-1, Dartmouth (9-4-0, 3-1-0 Ivy League) and the Quakers battled it out, but the Big Green earned the victory behind a goal from senior tri-captain Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C). Solomon connected with a cross from Kelly Brait (Glenview, Ill.) and while the Penn goalkeeper made the save, the ball was already across the goalmouth and was ruled a goal.

Despite a Penn (7-5-1, 3-1-0 Ivy League) shot the hit the crossbar seconds later, the Big Green defense held and made the goal stand up giving Dartmouth its first win over Penn in the last four meetings.

Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) made a season-high seven saves, thwarting the Quakers twice in the final minutes of the game as they pushed for the equalizer.

Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Dartmouth offense with three shots but eight Dartmouth players recorded shots in the win. Both teams ended the night with 12 shots while the Big Green took an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks

The Big Green got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Lozier in the 13th minute. Brait struck a perfect corner kick and Lozier put a foot on it to give Dartmouth the early advantage.

Penn's Alex Dayneka, sister of Dartmouth's Jill Dayneka (Solon, Ohio), took a shot forcing Saunders to make a save, which seemed to jumpstart the Penn offense as they snuck a goal in at the 29:37 mark. Kerry Scalora tapped the ball past Saunders after she was sucked out of position by the Quaker forward.

Despite several close calls, including a shot from Penn's Erin York that hit the crossbar, the Dartmouth backline held on for the victory.

Dartmouth closes out the non-conference slate against Boston University on Wednesday (Oct. 17). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Burnham Field.
