DAYTON CAPTURES THIRD CONSECUTIVE A-10 TITLE
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton captured its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship with a 5-1 victory over Massachusetts Sunday at Baujan Field. Dayton improves to 19-3-0 with the victory.
It also marks the league-record 8th tournament title for the Flyers, who earned the A-10’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. The NCAA selection show will be held Monday, Nov. 7 at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET.
Dayton’s Colleen Williams, a junior forward, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the championship after registering four goals and three assists. She had a hat trick in the win over UMass (14-5-2). Sophomore midfielder Juliana Libertin, freshman forward Kelsey Smigel and sophomore Jordin Melchert were all selected to the All-Championship team for the Flyers.
Williams became UD’s all-time leader in points just 47 seconds into the A-10 final match against the Minutewomen. She unleashed a shot into the upper 90 left post off an assist from Steph Emery and Libertin.
She scored the next goal in the 10th minute with assists from Libertin and senior Josie Grant. Emery gave Dayton a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute with the assist from Grant.
Senior Emily Kenyon scored on a penalty kick to give UD a 4-0 cushion in the 68th minute.
Williams completed her first collegiate hat trick in the 71st minute on an assist from Libertin. She has 118 career points with 41 goals and 36 assists.
Melchert allowed just one goal in 270 minutes of play during the tournament. Her record improves to 9-0-0.
