DAYTON DROPS 1-0 DECISION TO ST. BONAVENTURE
DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team fell to the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure 1-0 on Sunday after a late goal by the visitors.
The Flyers had a number of scoring opportunities in the first half, but were unable to capitalize. Dayton controlled the momentum for the most part and kept the ball in the Bonnie third of the field for much of the first 45 minutes.
At halftime, the score remained 0-0. The Flyers totaled 11 shots in the first half, but only one of those attempts was on goal. St. Bonaventure had two shots on goal in six total attempts.
A few adjustments were made to the Dayton personnel to start the second half, but the pace of the game remained in the Flyers' favor.
UD continued to fire on the Bonnies' goal, but the SBU back line held strong.
In the 80th minute, the visiting Bonnies broke up the draw with a goal by Emmett O'Connor on an assist by Eric Smolarek. That put SBU up 1-0 with just a few minutes left in the contest.
That goal would be the difference in the game as the Flyers lost for just the second time this season.
The Flyers (11-2-2, 1-2-2 A10) will head out on the road for the rest of the regular season, starting with an away contest at La Salle next Saturday.
