DAYTON KNOCKS OFF NATIONALLY RANKED KANSAS
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team scored three unanswered goals to knock off No. 26 Kansas 3-1 in the first round of the Purdue Boilermaker Challenge Cup Friday night. Dayton improves to 5-1 overall and the Jayhawks are 5-2.
After allowing an early goal on a defensive miscommunication, the Flyers got back on track defensively, and the offense kicked in too.
Sophomore Sarah Senoyuit scored her first goal of the season to equalize the game 1-1 in the 33rd minute on a set-piece service from senior Emily Kenyon.
Senior Kelsey Owen also got her first goal of the season and it proved to be the game-winner. Junior Colleen Williams crossed the ball into the box and Owen one-timed it for a UD 2-1 lead in the 49th minute.
Williams scored her fifth goal of the season from 30 yards out and it slipped through the goalkeepers fingers. Junior Alysha Mallon set up the score.
Dayton plays Cal State Northridge for the Boilerkmaker Challenge Cup title this Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. The Matadors defeated Purdue, after tying 2-2 in double overtime and then winning the shootout 3-2.
