DAYTON MEN DEFEAT CLEVELAND STATE, 4-1
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team defeated the Cleveland State Vikings 4-1 on Tuesday night at Baujan Field in front of a crowd of 956 fans. The Flyers are now 2-1-0 on the season, while Cleveland State drops to 0-2-0.
KEY STATS
The Flyers out-shot the Vikings in the first half 11-6 and put four on target. Overall, Dayton had 17 shots compared to nine for Cleveland State. The home team had six shots on goal with the away team having two shots on goal.
Justin Saliba made one save in goal for the Flyers.
Dayton also led in fouls with 12, while Cleveland State had eight.
Eight different Flyers recorded a shot while 20 different players saw action for Dayton.
DAYTON GOALS
15th Minute – Senior Amass Amankona was standing near the six yard box and his shot went into the lower right corner to give the Flyers the lead. Assists by junior Tommy Harr with a cross into the box and senior Maik Schoonderwoerd with the pass.
18th Minute – Michael Frasca scored when he dribbled into the right side of the box and his shot found the lower left corner of the net. Schoonderwoerd provided his second assist of the game.
55th Minute – Junior James Haupt header went above the keeper. Assisted by Amankona with the cross near the end line on the left side.
77th Minute – Senior Carlos Sendin with a shot from 25 yards out into lower left corner. Assist by junior Ben Emery.
CLEVELAND STATE GOAL
83rd Minute – (CS) Antonio Burgoa with a shot from 25 yards out into upper left corner.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will head back out on the road for a rare Monday game as Dayton travels to Marquette on Sept. 7 for an 8 p.m. start time.
