Delaware Claims 2-0 Win Over Del. State
DOVER, Del. – Senior midfielder Anna Lenczyk tallied her first two goals of the season as the University of Delaware women’s soccer team shutout Delaware State University, 2-0, in Route One Rivalry action Sunday afternoon at DSU’s Alumni Stadium.
After dropping a tough 1-0 decision to Loyola Friday, Delaware (2-3) rebounded with a weekend split by downing the Hornets (0-4) on Sunday.
At the 39:13 mark of the first half, with a helpful assist by Tania Domingos, Lenczyk knocked in her first goal of the game as the Blue Hens took a 1-0 lead over the Hornets.
Delaware seized a 2-0 advantage over Delaware State at the 49:00 mark of the second half after freshman Madeline Parker delivered her first career assist as Lenczyk delivered her second goal of the match from 15 yards away into the lower left corner of the goal.
Starting her first game of the season in goal, sophomore Jess Figueroa faced just one shot on goal and made the save to post the shutout. The Blue Hens tallied 10 shots on goal with Domingos leading the way with three.
Delaware State’s goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky made eight saves in the loss. Kaitlyn Schech made the only shot on goal on the day for the Hornets.
The Blue Hens continue their non-conference schedule with a home match on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. when Delaware hosts Saint Joseph’s at 7 p.m. at Delaware Mini Stadium.
