Delaware's Falls to Seton Hall, 2-1, in OT
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The University of Delaware woman’s soccer team let an early lead slip away and host Seton Hall posted a 2-1 overtime victory Friday evening at Seton Hall’s Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Blue Hens (0-2) lost to their second straight Big East opponent while Seton Hall (5-0) remained unbeaten in its non-conference schedule.
Tied 1-1 going into overtime, SHU’s Ashley Clarke delivered the deciding blow 1:13 into the extra period by scoring off a loose ball following a save by Delaware goalkeeper Jessica Levy.
Delaware’s returning scoring leader, Ali Miller (at right), scored her first goal of the 2012 campaign at the 1:20 mark of the first half. Fueled by an assist from Chelsea Duffy, Miller cranked a point-blank shot on a loose ball in Seton Hall’s penalty box.
The Pirates tied the game at 1-1 at the 60:35 mark of the second half when Marie Klemme curved a shot from the right side of the Blue Hens’ penalty box.
Delaware collected 20 shots in the game while Levy made four saves in goal in the defeat. SHU’s goalkeeper Gina Maiorana tallied three saves in the victory while the Pirates collected 18 shots in the victory, including four in overtime.
Delaware will complete its road weekend by traveling to Loudonville, N.Y. and play the Siena University Saints on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. Delaware will return home on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. to play the Saint Joseph’s Hawks at Delaware Mini Stadium.
