DePaoli Claims Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Honors
Oct. 3, 2011
CINCINNATI - Sophomore midfielder Gino Depaoli has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, after scoring one goal and recording one assist last week. It is the first A-10 weekly honor for DePaoli.
DePaoli scored his goal in the 79th minute of Xavier's come-from-behind victory over Wright State on Saturday. He lined up just outside the 18-yard box, and drove home a free kick off a Raider defender. The goal sparked a three-goal burst in a matter of 2:31 to give Xavier a 3-2 road win against the Raiders.
His assist was the final touch leading up the Musketeers' goal against crosstown rival Cincinnati on Wednesday. His service just cleared the back defender to help Xavier earn a 1-1 double-overtime draw on the road.
The Flower Mound, Texas native has enjoyed a strong second-year, in which he has three goals and two assists in eight starts. HE has scored three goals, two of which were game-winning, in the Musketeers' last five games. He bent a free kick to beat IUPUI on Sept. 22 and finished a cross to beat No. 13 Northern Illinois in overtime on Sept. 16. His other assist was aided a game-winning goal as well.
Among conference statistical leaders, DePaoli is tied for ninth in goals and listed 10th in points, while tying for the A-10 lead in game-winning goals. Last week, DePaoli was named the second best player in the conference by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Xavier is 6-1-1 this season heading into its first conference action this weekend. The Musketeers host Fordham at 7 p.m. Friday and La Salle at 1 p.m. Sunday.
