Detroit Mercy Outlasts Toledo In 2OT, 2-1
TOLEDO, Ohio (9/6/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team posted a dramatic come-from-behind win as freshman Julie Ann Piechocki booted in the game-winner with less than two minutes to go in the second overtime to give the Titans a 2-1 road win at Toledo on Thursday evening.
The win moved Detroit Mercy to 2-3-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in its last four games, while Toledo fell to 3-2-1 overall.
The game was knotted at 1-1 late in the second overtime when senior Marina Manzo registered her eighth save of the game. She then set up the offense with a booming kick past midfield that was headed by sophomore Kelli Doyle to freshman Nasreen Kobeissi, who had a clean touch pass to Piechocki to keep her in stride and she did the rest, beating the keeper to the right side for the game winner.
The Titans were down 1-0 early when Piechocki was able to feed senior Molly Kane and she put one up and over the goalie in the 30th minute.
Detroit Mercy will look to remain hot when it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne on Titan Field on Sunday at 4 p.m.
It will be International Students Day and free lanyards will be handed out to all fans.
